On-Ice officiating staff to hold silent auction fundraisers at Denver and North Dakota games on Nov. 23 and 24

DENVER and GRAND FORKS, N.D. - National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) on-ice officials are raising money for The Movember Foundation and awareness for men’s health issues by growing mustaches and auctioning off one-of-a-kind collectables and experiences Nov. 23 and 24 at the University of Denver and University of North Dakota college hockey games.

"NCHC officials do a great job representing the conference brand on the ice,” said NCHC commissioner Josh Fenton. “We are even more proud of their work off the ice to better their local communities, grow the game of hockey, and promote charitable causes.”

This is the fourth year NCHC officials have taken on this initiative, and the total amount raised has grown each year. In 2017, the staff raised over $15,000. This year, the goal is more than $20,000. To help, NCHC teams, NHL officials, and private parties have donated hockey merchandise, hockey collectables, and unforgettable experiences to be auctioned off during the games.

In Denver this year, grand prize items include autographed DU jerseys, and a golf foursome at Sanctuary Golf Club, one of the most exclusive courses in Colorado. Dozens of other prizes, experiences, and collectables will be up for auction as well. The No. 7 Pioneers take on No. 9 Providence on Friday, Nov. 23 at 7:07 p.m. MT at Magness Arena. Tickets are available at the arena box office or online.

On Saturday, Nov. 24, North Dakota plays host to Alaska Anchorage at 7:07 p.m. CT. Fans at that game can bid on a ticket package to the 2019 Frozen Faceoff in Saint Paul, Minn. or on North Dakota memorabilia signed by all-time UND greats like Brock Boeser and Zach Parise. Tickets to that game are available through ticketmaster.

"The NCHC Officials Movember fundraising effort is a wonderful coming together of our entire officiating staff to promote something they have supported for the past five seasons,” said Fenton. “With the support and incredible generosity from our member institutions, the officiating staff has been able to annually grow fundraising efforts for a great cause.”

In its sixth season of competition in 2018-19, the NCHC has established itself as one of the premier collegiate hockey conferences in the country, with the last three NCAA Men’s Division I National Champions calling the NCHC home. Its eight member schools – Colorado College, the University of Denver, Miami University, the University of Minnesota Duluth, the University of Nebraska Omaha, the University of North Dakota, St. Cloud State University and Western Michigan University – share the principles of excellence both on and off the ice. The NCHC is committed to fostering an environment of integrity, sportsmanship and competition.

The Movember Foundation is the only global charity focused solely on men’s health. Men start Movember 1st clean-shaven and grow only a moustache for the month. The Movember community has funded more than 1,200 innovative men’s health projects across 21 countries. This work is helping men live happier, healthier, and longer lives through investing in these critical areas: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. Participants get friends, family, or colleagues to donate to their efforts to change the face of men’s health.
