COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Second-ranked North Dakota ran its winning streak to six with a 2-1 victory over host Colorado College Monday evening at Broadmoor World Arena. Grant Mismash's goal early in the third period proved to be the difference, un-knotting a 1-all score and Adam Scheel sparkled again in goal with 23 saves in the win.
Shane Pinto won a clean draw back to Matt Kiersted at the point. He flung a pass to Riese Gaber, whose initial shot was saved but he followed it up with his own rebound and a 1-0 North Dakota lead. It marked his eighth goal of the season to pull him into a tie atop the NCHC in scoring.
CC tied it 1-1 with a power play goal at 19:02 in the second period, solving Adam Scheel for the first time all weekend and ending North Dakota's streak of successful penalty kills at 21.
Early in the third period, Collin Adams and Grant Mismash executed a perfect 2-on-1. Brendan Budy controlled the puck along the boards in the UND zone and then gave it to Adams, who sped into the Tigers zone. Adams saucered a on-target pass to Mismash who was driving the slot and he buried it for the eventual game-winnner and his sixth goal of the season.
Scheel again made it hold up after getting peppered with 15 shots in the second period alone. UND came out in the third and controlled the puck, allowing just three shots on goal and putting nine on net.
UND (9-2-1) is slated to play Denver next weekend at Magness Arena, while the Tigers (3-7-2) are scheduled to host Omaha. Check with NCHCHockey.com for the latest schedule changes.
