Returning from the Thanksgiving holiday break, home teams didn’t find much home-ice advantage Friday night, as road teams won all three conference games, while Colorado College also went on the road and earned a non-conference victory. In a goaltending duel in Kalamazoo, sophomore forward Gavin Hain scored the game’s only goal in overtime to lift No. 3/3 North Dakota to a 1-0 win over No. 17 Western Michigan, pushing UND’s unbeaten streak to 12 games. In another one-goal nailbiter, junior defenseman Luke Jaycox scored with 26 seconds left in regulation to break a tie and lift St. Cloud State to a 2-1 win at Miami, the Huskies first NCHC win of the season. No. 14/14 Minnesota Duluth erupted for four goals in the third period to pull away from No. 18 Omaha and double up the Mavericks, 6-3. In non-conference play, Colorado College thumped Princeton in the battle of the Tigers, 7-2, in New Jersey, while No. 4/4 Denver fell in the desert to No. 20 Arizona State, 4-1.
All five series conclude Saturday night, with all three conference series finales available on NCHC.tv. The Denver at Arizona State game is available on TV on Pac-12 Networks at 4:30 p.m. MT. The Colorado College game, along with the NCHC contests in Oxford and Kalamazoo, start at 7 p.m. ET, while UMD and Omaha wrap up their series an hour later.
