UMD, UND Complete Weekend Sweeps at Home

Miami earns road win; DU collects first NCHC win of season; UMD blanks CC; UND wins in OT

Saturday night saw three of four home teams win in NCHC action, with two completing sweeps. No. 5/6 North Dakota needed overtime to finish its sweep of St. Cloud State in Grand Forks, as junior forward Jordan Kawaguchi scored in the extra session to keep UND perfect at home this season and stretch its unbeaten streak to nine games. Also finishing off a sweep at home was No. 9/10 Minnesota Duluth, which blanked Colorado College, 5-0, behind senior goaltender Hunter Shepard’s 17th career shutout (extending an NCHC record) and second of the season. The third home team to win Saturday was No. 4/4 Denver, which picked up its first conference win of the season in six tries with a 6-1 win over No. 20 Western Michigan, settling for a weekend split. The lone road team to win Saturday was Miami, which used a three-goal second period to down No. 18 Omaha, 4-1, capping a five-point weekend at Baxter Arena.

Only three NCHC teams are in action on Thanksgiving weekend, all against non-conference foes. No. 5/6 North Dakota looks to extend its NCAA-best nine-game unbeaten streak at long-time rival Minnesota, starting on Thanksgiving night (Thursday, Nov. 28) and finishing the series on Friday, Nov. 29. Both UND games can be seen on TV on FOX Sports North and FOX College Sports Atlantic. Also in the state of Minnesota, No. 9/10 Minnesota Duluth hosts top-ranked Minnesota State for a pair of top-10 tilts at AMSOIL Arena on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 29-30, with both those games available on The final series next weekend has Miami heading east for two games at Hockey East foe UConn in Hartford, also on Friday and Saturday.
